Did your home get hit by HAIL?

HAIL DAMAGE

Hail can damage your roof without any visible signs from the ground. Golf ball size and larger hail bruises and cracks through the membrane of your shingles. Smaller hail, when driven by high winds and lasting for longer than just a minute, can also ruin your roof. Each individual roof and each individual slope on your roof needs to be inspected to determine if you have sustained damage and how it is best repaired. Besides your roof there are other items that need to be inspected when large hail hits your property. Patios, awnings, gutters, siding, wood paint, etc. We provide complete estimating and restoration services for all of your repair needs.

CHECKLIST FOR HAIL AND STORM-RELATED CLAIMS

1. Call your insurance company and request an adjuster’s inspection. You may have to wait for up to three weeks. If temporary repairs are needed we will provide this service and bill your insurance company.
2. Getting estimates-Interviewing contractors. The price of standard roofing and guttering procedures is pretty competitive and like contractors with necessary licenses, insurance and over-head expenses will all need approximately the same amount of money to complete the job. Your insurance company knows this and has the market price by the square or linear foot in their estimating programs. You should treat this process more as an information gathering and pre-selection procedure rather than an absolute pricing situation. Remember this, hail hits this area every year, and insurance companies are raising deductibles higher and higher. If you want to develop a relationship with a quality contractor, and you want him to provide top quality products and services, negotiating lower than market prices are not to our benefit. Especially if your home is older, historical or needs more than just a new roof.
3. Your first check and adjuster’s report. A) Call your mortgage company and learn the procedure for getting your draft endorsed, B) Call your contractor and let him go over the adjuster’s report with you. He will look for damages they left out, repair processes they denied, or for areas where he can save you money or upgrade your shingle. If your adjuster’s estimate is less than your contractor’s, let your contractor contact your adjuster and work out the differences.
4. Historical, older, 3 story, steep, and houses without driveways. The price of your repairs are hard to calculate using the standards installed in your adjuster’s computer program and for most construction estimators. You are dealing with rotten wood, code updates, dangerous and time consuming jobs. Many times carpentry repairs are necessary to bring your house to code which are not part of your insurance claim. Also, small quantity repairs such as: pieces of siding, trim, gutters, window pane, screens and painting are impossible to get done without a minimum charge. If you would like to hire one contractor to complete all of your repairs, your insurance company will allow an additional charge for a general contractor to complete and oversee these for you. This is called general contractor charges for overhead profit.

HIRING GUIDELINES FOR CONSTRUCTION CONTRACTING

1. Do you like the contractor or agent? Did they provide you with a thorough, written estimate detailing the specific scope of work, start and finish dates, payment terms, problem solving procedures and alternative solutions to monetary questions you may have?
2. Did they provide you with names, addresses, and phone numbers of people you can call, jobs in progress that you can go see, and even some customers from years back that have had a warranty problem handled in a professional way?
3. Are they members of industry associations?
4. Did they produce licenses and credentials if asked?
5. Did they explain how your job would be processed from the day you sign the contract, such as: permitting, ordering and delivery of materials, debris management, potential for property damage, additional work necessary to bring your property to code, cosmetic imperfections that you may have accepted, payment arrangements, final inspections, normal and customary code and cosmetic corrections, and payment of final balance due along with written warranties and lien releases?

MY ADJUSTERS SAID “NO DAMAGE”

Your roof may have been the only one on the block that did not receive enough damage to justify replacing your roof. However, it is very easy to miss. Your adjuster and insurance company want you to have a new roof if you need one. All you have to do is call your adjuster or agent and request a meeting with your contractor so that we can show him our assessment of damage and work out the price of the repair.

“WE DIDN’T GET ENOUGH MONEY TO COVER OUR REPAIRS”

Your agent and your adjuster are swamped with calls from people every day with the same problem. Most of the time your adjustment is fine, you just need someone to explain the depreciation (holdback) part of the claim to you, or to discover an additional cost that could have been missed. If you have replacement cost insurance, you will receive additional funds from your insurance company after you provide your agent or claim’s office with the final invoices for the damage repairs.

COMMONLY MISSED ROOFING ITEMS
